What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small, biocompatible titanium fixture placed into your jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has integrated with the bone, it acts as the foundation for a crown, bridge or stable denture - giving you back the look and function of natural teeth.

Implants are widely considered the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. They protect the jawbone from shrinkage, do not involve cutting down healthy neighbouring teeth (unlike a traditional bridge), and are designed to last for decades.

Is it right for me?

Dental implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth, or a full arch. They are often a good option if you:

  • Have one or more missing or failing teeth
  • Wear a partial or full denture that feels loose or uncomfortable
  • Have been told a bridge is your only option but want to avoid cutting down your other teeth
  • Want a long-term replacement, not a short-term fix

At your consultation we will take a 3D CBCT scan, review your medical history, and talk you through the options and costs so you can make an informed decision.

The Process

How dental implant treatment works

1

Consultation and 3D scan

A detailed examination, CBCT scan, and a discussion about your goals. You leave with a written treatment plan and a clear cost.

2

Planning

Your case is planned digitally using the 3D scan, which lets us position the implant precisely and predictably.

3

Implant placement

The implant is placed in your jawbone under local anaesthetic. Most patients describe this as more comfortable than a tooth extraction.

4

Healing and integration

Over 3-6 months the implant fuses with your jawbone (osseointegration). A temporary tooth or denture may be worn during this time.

5

Final restoration

Once healed, your custom crown, bridge or denture is fitted onto the implant. The result is designed to feel and function like a natural tooth.

6

Aftercare and reviews

Routine hygiene appointments and review check-ups protect your investment for the long term. Smile Club covers the preventive side of this.

Cost and payment options

Implant cases vary based on whether grafting or additional preparation is needed. We provide a detailed, written quote at your consultation, with no surprises later. Smile Plus and Elite members receive a discount on the restorative work attached to an implant case.

We accept card payments via Stripe, bank transfer to our business account, and Klarna for smaller balances. Smile Club memberships are billed by recurring Direct Debit through GoCardless.

Common questions

Dental implant FAQs

How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular hygiene appointments, modern dental implants can last 20 years or more. The implant fixture itself is designed to be a long-term replacement; the crown or bridge attached to it may need replacing over time, much like any other restoration.
Is the procedure painful?
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel the procedure itself. Most patients describe the recovery as similar to a tooth extraction. We provide aftercare guidance and you can take normal over-the-counter pain relief if needed.
How long does the whole process take?
From your first consultation to the final restored tooth, treatment usually takes between 3 and 6 months. This allows time for the implant to fuse with your jawbone (a process called osseointegration) before the final crown or bridge is fitted. Same-day temporary teeth may be possible in some cases.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Most healthy adults with sufficient jawbone are good candidates. We assess this at your consultation using a 3D CBCT scan. Smokers, people with uncontrolled diabetes, or those who have lost significant bone may need extra planning, but treatment is often still possible.
What if I do not have enough bone for an implant?
Bone grafting or sinus lifts can build up the jaw to support an implant. This adds time and cost to treatment, but means implants are still possible for many patients who would otherwise be told they cannot have them. We will discuss your options openly at your consultation.
How much do dental implants cost at Anele Dental?
Single implant cases including the final crown are quoted at consultation, as the cost depends on whether grafting or additional preparation is needed. We will always provide a detailed written quote before any treatment starts, and we accept card, Klarna for smaller balances, and recurring Direct Debit for treatment plans.
Does Smile Club cover dental implants?
Smile Club covers your routine preventive care (exams, hygiene, x-rays). Implant cases are quoted separately, but Smile Plus and Smile Elite members receive a discount on the restorative and cosmetic work attached to an implant case.
